The Domaine de Hérès vineyard is located on the delimited area of the AOP Buzet.
The vineyard’s surface is of about 8 ha and the vines are planted on outcrops of chalky-clayey soil. On the molasses hillsides, there is a large amount of sandstone.
There are only 3 grape varieties in this estate: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The average age of the vines is about 28 years old.
The yields reach 55 hl/ha at the maximum. Nevertheless, in difficult years like 2003, yields are much lower: around 45 hl/ha.
Vines are planted at a density of about 4.000 vines per hectare.
Thanks to steady monitoring of the vine ensured in this estate, the use of weed-killer is reasonble. Except in exceptional circumstances (very bad weather), but doses are much lower than the ones imposed by AOP Buzet specifications.
On half of the vineyard,
the grapes are hand-picked
and harvested by machine on the other half.
